Beef Expo Show Information Available
Livestock Update, March 2007
Dr. Mark L. Wahlberg, Extension Animal Scientist, VA Tech
The Virginia Beef Expo will be held at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on April 20-22. On Friday, April 20 will be most of the breed sales, educational programs, and the Expo Beef Fest. Saturday, the 21st brings the Commercial heifer sale and many of the youth breed shows. Sunday wraps up the Expo with 3 of the largest youth shows in the entire schedule.
Members of the several junior beef breed associations will be receiving entry information from their breed representatives or advisors. These breeds with shows scheduled during the Expo include Angus, Hereford, Simmental, Shorthorn, and Red Angus. However, Virginia 4H and FFA members with Commercial heifers, Other Breeds of Registered Heifers, and Steers will have to access entry forms directly. They are available to download and print from the 4H livestock website, which is http://www.ext.vt.edu/resources/4h/livestock/index.html The Virginia Beef Expo has a web site which provides information about the entire event, plus a link to the Youth Show information. That website is http://www.vabeefexpo.org/
Entries for the various shows are due by March 31. Please be prompt with your entries. For more information about a specific breed show, contact that breed association advisor.
