Beef Cattle Electronic Identification Field Days to be Hosted July 16-20

Virginia Cooperative Extension, in cooperation with area livestock markets, will be hosting field days consisting of demonstrations and educational sessions related to Electronic Identification Uses in Cattle Management and Marketing. Each session will include live demonstrations of alley and hand-held RFID reader devices and related technologies along with discussion of impacts on cattle handling, cost, and usability. Program sessions will also discuss electronic identification technology as a management tool for beef producers, including value-added opportunities related to source and age verification and other applications. Each field day will focus on providing hands-on demonstrations of electronic identification technology, and applications for Virgnia’s cattle producers.
Five session across the state are planned. Each field day will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:
