1999 BIF Convention Planned June 16 - 19 In Virginia

The 31st annual convention of the Beef Improvement Federation is scheduled to be held at the Hotel Roanoke, Roanoke, Va., June 16 - 19, 1999. Some 500 to 600 beef cattle breeders and producers, university researchers and extension personnel, and breed association and support industry personnel are expected to attend. BIF encompasses North America and its membership is composed of state and national beef cattle organizations involved with beef cattle breeding and improvement. Members of such organizations and all others interested in beef cattle profitability are cordially invited to attend. Roanoke is well situated in the mid-Atlantic region and is easy to travel to by air and ground transportation.

The three-day program will begin with a cattle reproduction session on Wednesday evening, June 16th. A half day general session will be held on Thursday, June 17th and the general theme of "Profiting from Efficiency." Another half day general session will be held on Friday, June 18th on the subject of "Profiting from Increased Demand." Special interest sessions will be held on Thursday and Friday afternoons on the general subjects of Producer Technology Application, Live Animal Evaluation, Genetic Prediction, Multiple Trait Selection, Whole Herd Analysis, and Emerging Technology. On Thursday evening, a food, fun and education event will be held at the nearby Transportation Museum. The main awards banquet will be held Friday evening, June 18th.

On Saturday, June 19th, two excellent tours to cattle operations and historical sites will be held. Special ladies tours will be held both Thursday and Friday, June 17 and 18.
